Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM today joined some of Indonesia’s most prominent women engineers to highlight their contributions in the infrastructure sector.
Speaking at a 2023 International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) event in Jakarta, Ambassador Williams said, “INWED is an opportunity to recognise the achievements of women engineers and to foster gender equality in infrastructure development.”
The event also marked the 70th anniversary of Australian Scholarships in Indonesia – highlighting the strong bilateral ties between the two countries.
“The Australia Awards in Indonesia have been instrumental in strengthening people-to-people connections and enhancing the capabilities of Indonesian professionals. We are delighted to highlight our Australian alumni’s contributions in the infrastructure sector," said Ambassador Williams.
Ir Diana Kusumastuti, Director General of Cipta Karya - Ministry of Public Works and Housing, delivered a keynote speech. She shared her experience as an engineer leading policy formulation and implementation of public infrastructure in the water and sanitation sectors.
The event was hosted by the Indonesia Australia Partnership for Infrastructure (KIAT) and was attended by key government stakeholders, Australian alumni in Indonesia, and infrastructure industry professionals. Participants heard from two panel discussions under the INWED 2023 global theme of “#MakeSafetySeen”.
The Australian Government is committed to promoting gender equality and supporting the advancement of women in engineering and infrastructure through KIAT.
KIAT is a partnership between the governments of Australia and Indonesia to support sustainable and inclusive economic growth through increased access to infrastructure for everyone. KIAT works with government and communities, providing technical assistance to improve infrastructure policy, financing and provision in the roads, urban mobility, water and sanitation sectors.
