The Australian Embassy Jakarta held the “Gig on the Green” festival for alumni of Australian universities on 14 October, with music performances and a classic Aussie BBQ at Thamrin 10, Jakarta.
Gig on the Green showcased Australian band Germein and Indonesian acts Tompi, and Scaller. MCs Sakdiyah Ma’ruf and Aldi Tama provided entertainment.
The Embassy hosts this mini music festival each year to welcome home recently returned Indonesian alumni of Australian universities, celebrate their success, and establish ongoing connections. This year’s event was the first to take place since the COVID pandemic. Over 700 alumni attended.
In 2023, the Australian Embassy and Consulates-General in Indonesia are marking the 70th anniversary of Australian scholarships – the longest-running foreign scholarships program in Indonesia.
“Australia is so proud of our extraordinary alumni community in Indonesia,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams PSM. “This year is particularly special as we celebrate the deep people-to-people connections built through 70 years of Australian scholarships.”
Australian alumni vendors, including St Ali, Kopi Kenangan, Aussie pies by the Pie Man, Aussy roast chicken, Loaf, Foodtalk.id, Chikari, Amazy Family Resto, and Raka ice cream provided the food and beverages for the event.
Australia’s Qantas Airways, as well as Indonesian companies RS Premier Bintaro, Panorama JTB, Ecomama Jakarta, Allegra Jane, Danjyo Hiyoji, Mangan House Catering, Uwerans and Sekar Makirtya Gallery supported this year’s Gig on the Green.
