Indonesia’s First Childcare Guide for Employers

Joint Media Release

7 March 2024

Indonesia’s first ever Guide to Employer-Supported Childcare was launched in Jakarta on 6 March, enhancing the role the private sector can play in advancing women’s economic empowerment.

Supported by the Australian Government, the guide was developed by the Indonesian Business Coalition for Women Empowerment (IBCWE), Investing in Women (IW), and the Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Development (Prospera).

Steve Scott, Chargé d’Affaires at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta, said that Australia was pleased to support the development of the Guide to Employer-Supported Childcare.

“The new guide will support women’s participation in the workforce by providing assistance to balance work and carer responsibilities, which will increase women’s economic empowerment,” he added.

The event fostered discussions on enhancing female labour force participation through employer-supported childcare solutions and united a range of partners to champion the causes of working parents.

Employer-supported childcare also delivers benefits to businesses, such as improving employee engagement and productivity, increasing recruitment and retention of high-performers, and strengthening workplace culture.

IBCWE, PROSPERA and IW are Australian Government supported programs committed to promoting women's economic empowerment and gender equality, contributing to strong, inclusive, sustainable economic growth in Indonesia.
