Indonesian and Australian Partners Build Cooperation on Digital Transformation

Media Release

22 March 2024

Partners from the Indonesian and Australian Governments gathered in Jakarta this week to share ideas and strengthen cooperation in support of the Indonesian Government’s digital transformation efforts.

The visit by the Australian Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) was centered around discussions with the Indonesian Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (KemenPANRB), Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, and Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

The DTA delegation met Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas, Vice Minister of the Ministry for Communications and Informatics, Nezar Patria and other senior officials.

Agencies from both Australia and Indonesia are fostering an exchange of information and lessons in driving whole-of-government collaboration to strengthen digital government services.

The Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Development (PROSPERA) facilitated the visit as part of a broader program support for Indonesia’s digital transformation.

Australian Chargé d'Affaires to Indonesia Steve Scott highlighted the significance of Indonesia and Australia sharing insights and ideas on modernising government services for a world that is increasingly digital and data-driven.

“As Indonesia accelerates digital transformation, it is great to see collaborative relationships continuing to develop between Indonesian and Australian agencies,” said Chargé d'Affaires Scott.

“Our countries face similar challenges in the implementation of digital government: fostering collaboration across government agencies, managing vast geographies and addressing disparities in digital literacy between regional and urban areas.”

“We are pleased to partner with Indonesia on the digital transformation journey. We know this is a key priority for President Widodo and recognise progress made by Indonesia on digital service delivery,” he added.

The DTA visit follows last year’s visits by the DTA Chief Executive Officer Chris Fechner to Jakarta in June and Minister Anas to Canberra in October.
