Australian Support to Nusantara Capital Authority: Soft Launch of Nusantara Biodiversity Master Plan

Media Release

27 March 2024

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams, joined the Head of the Nusantara National Capital Authority, Bapak Bambang Susantono, at the soft launch of the Nusantara Biodiversity Masterplan on Tuesday 26 March.

The Nusantara Biodiversity Masterplan was developed with support from the Asian Development Bank and funded by the Australian Government through the Sustainable Infrastructure Assistance Program.

“Australia is pleased to support Indonesia in its ambition to develop Ibu Kota Nusantara as a sustainable forest city. The Masterplan sets out how to preserve the diverse natural ecosystems while building a new, vibrant world class city like Indonesia’s new capital,” said Ambassador Williams.

This is part of a broader package of Australian assistance announced by President Widodo and Prime Minister Albanese, which supported the development of the Nusantara Net Zero Strategy 2045 and helped identify targets for the carbon neutral development of Nusantara.

Australia is also offering Australia Awards Nusantara Scholarships for postgraduate study at Australian university campuses in Indonesia. The first group of Nusantara scholars commenced their Masters degree programs at Monash University Indonesia in October last year.

Australia’s cooperation with OIKN was further strengthened last month, with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between OIKN and Australia’s Canberra National Capital Authority.
