Media Release

24 April 2024

Australian Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, launched the new phase of Investing in Women in Jakarta on 23 April.

Investing in Women is an Australian Government initiative focused on accelerating women’s economic empowerment in Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam.

Deputy Ambassador Kamath said, “Investing in Women support the efforts of Indonesian business leaders and gender equality advocates to remove structural barriers so that women can thrive in the workplace and in business.”

“Working with Indonesian champions, the Australian Government is making a meaningful commitment to women’s economic empowerment through Investing in Women,” said Deputy Ambassador Kamath.

Investing in Women’s past achievements include the establishment of the Indonesia Business Coalition for Women’s Empowerment (IBCWE), which now has 35 member companies representing 435,000 employees, and past investments in women-led businesses that have catalysed additional investment of AUD255 million.

Supported by the Australian Government, Investing In Women, IBCWE and the Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Development (Prospera) also developed Indonesia’s first ever Guide to Employer Supported Childcare

The new phase of Investing in Women will build on this momentum, particularly focusing on workplace gender equality and childcare.
