Indonesian and Australian Partners Promotes Gender Equality

In celebration of Kartini Day, public sector leaders from Indonesia and Australia gathered in Jakarta on Tuesday 23 April to share experiences and promote women’s leadership and inclusive policy in the public sector.

The Women in Government Forum, hosted by the Australia Indonesia Partnership for Economic Development (Prospera), the Australian Taxation Office and Indonesian Government partners, fostered collaboration and discussion on shared challenges and initiatives to accelerate inclusion and equality in the public sector, including strategies, networks and mentoring arrangements.

“Having women’s perspectives in decision-making is vital, especially for government agencies that has a duty to craft policy promoting inclusive, sustainable development for all,” said Woro Srihastuti Sulistyaningrum, Deputy for Coordination of Quality Improvement for Children, Women and Youth from the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

In her opening remarks, Emily Edwards, representing the Australian Embassy, emphasised the importance of inclusive growth. “A strong public sector is critical to achieving economic growth goals,” said Emily Edwards. “A strong public sector relies on women having access to equal opportunities for career progression and leadership positions.”

The Women in Government Forum builds on continued collaboration between Indonesia and Australia to boost women’s economic empowerment and economic growth.

Lenny N. Rosalin, the Presidium of the Indonesian Women's Highest Leaders Association in Public Sector (PIMTI) said, “The vision of PIMTI is strengthening collaborations among development actors to accelerate achieving empowered women in order to support national development goals.”

Forum participants included representatives from Indonesian government ministries, ombudsman, transport agencies, women’s associations and Australian government departments and agencies and many more.
