Festival Sinema Australia Indonesia (FSAI) returns for its ninth year from 31 May to 23 June 2024. This year’s festival will showcase Australian and Indonesian films to audiences in ten cities across Indonesia – Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Padang, Surabaya, Mataram, Makassar, Manado, Samarinda, and Balikpapan.
“Australia and Indonesia are marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, and film is a powerful medium for creating connections and promoting understanding between our two countries,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM. “I am delighted that FSAI 2024 will showcase the impressive expertise and creativity of the Australian and Indonesian film industries to audiences across Indonesia.”
The festival will open with the Indonesian premiere of Blueback, a Western Australian film that tells a universal story of friendship, family and community. Also featuring in this year’s lineup is Petualangan Sherina 2, produced by Indonesian film-maker and Australian alumna, Mira Lesmana.
Moviegoers and students can engage their creative energy in masterclasses covering cinematic storytelling, film production, film archiving and planetarium film making with a range of Australian film experts and educators. Students will have the opportunity to experience Deakin University’s full dome planetarium film The Earth Above and will gain insights into the innovative techniques and technologies behind this immersive project.
“Australia is also proud to launch a new opportunity for Indonesian film makers to attend a short course on film production in Australia, boosting cooperation between our creative sectors, and encouraging future collaboration,” said Ms Williams.
Tickets to film screenings and events are free of charge with limited seats available.
