The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s string quartet joined renowned Indonesian composer and pianist Ananda Sukarlan and Indonesian soprano Mariska Setiawan for the ‘Notes of Friendship: A Symphony of the 75th Year of Australia-Indonesia Diplomatic Relations’ concert on 4 July at JS Bach Recital Hall, Jakarta.

“Music has the power to transcend boundaries and connect people from diverse backgrounds. This special collaboration celebrates the close relationship between Australia and Indonesia,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM.

An art management masterclass has also been conducted in Jakarta by executive members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as an opportunity for knowledge-sharing with key cultural institutions.

“Through the universal language of music, the MSO is building cultural understanding across our region,” said MSO Managing Director, Sophie Galaise.

Also visiting Yogyakarta, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will host its annual Youth Music Camp, perform at UNESCO’s Prambanan Temple with the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra, and Youth Music Camp students, followed by a three-day arts management workshop.

A four-year extension of its Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Yogyakarta Special Region (2025 to 2028) and a new agreement with the Yogyakarta Royal Orchestra (2025 to 2028) will be signed during the visit.
