Media Release

17 July 2024

Australian Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, the Indonesian Red Cross Society (PMI) Secretary General, Dr AM Fachir and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Head of Indonesia Delegation Elkhan Rahimov today signed the 2024 Annual Work Plan (AWP) under the SIAP SIAGA program to strengthen disaster preparedness and disaster risk management in Indonesia.

"Australia is proud to support PMI’s disaster risk management work, which demonstrates that local solutions are the most sustainable and effective," said Deputy Ambassador Kamath.

The AWP outlines the activities to be carried out over one year. These activities include:

  1. strengthen the disaster risk reduction system at the national level,
  2. support target provinces, districts, and villages to be able to prevent, prepare, respond, and recover from disasters,
  3. strengthen cooperation between Australia and Indonesia on humanitarian preparedness and response at the regional level, and
  4. strengthening learning, innovation, and inclusion for disaster risk management.

Australia and Indonesia work in partnership on the $41 million (approximately Rp410 billion) SIAP SIAGA program, which aims to enhance Indonesia's capacity to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters. Through SIAP SIAGA, Australia and Indonesia also strengthen cooperation in humanitarian action in the broader Indo-Pacific region.

SIAP SIAGA is implemented by two consortia: IFRC together with PMI, and Palladium International Pty Ltd. For further information, visit:  https://siapsiaga.or.id/
