Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM visited Manado, North Sulawesi on 17-18 July 2024.

In Manado, Ambassador Williams, together with Australian Consul-General in Sulawesi, Todd Dias, met with the Mayor of Manado, Mr Andrei Angouw.

Ambassador Williams also met with Rector of Universitas Sam Ratulangi, Prof. Dr. Ir. Oktovian Berty Sompie, and Australian alumni. Ambassador Williams presented the university with new Australian books and resources on studying in Australia for its #AussieBanget Corner.

“This year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Australia-Indonesia diplomatic relations. From the start, education has been such an important part of our relationship. It is wonderful to meet some of the many Australian alumni in Manado and see this strong connection between Australia and Indonesia continue,” said Ambassador Williams.

As an exchange student in Indonesia during the early 1980s, Ambassador Williams lived with the Parera family in Jakarta who were originally from Manado. During her visit, Ambassador Williams also met with members of the extended Parera family.

“I have heard so much about Manado, so it is wonderful to see this vibrant city first-hand,” said Ambassador Williams.
