Australia hosted the first Senior Officials’ Meeting under the Electric Vehicle (EV) collaboration mechanism Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Canberra, Australia on 9 August 2024.
Septian Hario Seto, Deputy for Investment and Mining Coordination, Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs met with Michelle Dowdell, Acting Deputy Secretary Resources and Strategy Group, Australia’s Department of Industry, Science and Resources, and Lauren Bain, First Assistant Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade to progress implementation under the MoU.
Under the MoU, signed by Indonesia’s Acting Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Erick Thohir and Australia’s Minister for Science and Industry Ed Husic in 2023, both countries have committed to work together on mapping EV supply chains, improving environmental and social governance, joint scientific and research studies, as well as fostering new business-to-business links.
“Australia and Indonesia are partners in the clean energy transition, and we have a shared interest in growing diverse clean energy supply chains. I’m pleased that we are progressing collaboration on this important agreement,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM.
The MOU builds on an agreement between Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and President Joko Widodo to advance cooperation on the EV ecosystem.
The Australian Government has committed A$2 million in funding for conducting joint EV project research under the KONEKSI program, including on transport decarbonisation and battery recycling.
