Australia and Indonesia Education Collaboration on Green Energy Transition

Media Release

23 September 2024

Twenty-one Australian education and training providers are in Jakarta from 23-24 September taking part in the Australia-Southeast Asia Business Exchange (A-SEABX), showcasing green skills capabilities and collaboration with Indonesia to create future-ready workforces.

“Australia and Indonesia have strong and enduring educational links. Collaboration on education underpins our bilateral relations and enriches both our countries,” said Professor Jennifer Westacott AO, Australia’s Business Champion for Indonesia, who is leading the delegation.

“Indonesia, like Australia, needs an increasingly skilled workforce to transition to clean energy solutions and achieve net-zero emissions by 2060. It is our responsibility to collectively skill our people and I am here to urge Australian education providers to work in partnership and collaboratively with Indonesian institutions to support this important agenda of our times,” Professor Westacott added.

“Australia and Indonesia are working together to achieve net zero. Education and training will be an important part of this cooperation, and I’m delighted to see such strong interest in this business exchange mission,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM.

During the business exchange, three Memoranda of Understanding between Australian universities and Indonesian institutions were announced: Central Queensland University and Bisa Ruang Nuswantara (BIRU), University of Queensland and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) Persero, and University of Queensland and BIRU.

A-SEABX is the Australian Government’s flagship program to grow two-way trade between Australia and Southeast Asia through sectoral business missions and other initiatives. The business exchange provides a platform to raise awareness about business and investment opportunities, direct engagement with government and industry representatives and targeted business matching.
