Australian Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia Gita Kamath and Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) Primary Secretary Rustian today signed an extension of the Subsidiary Arrangement for the SIAP SIAGA Program to 2027. This signing marks the ongoing commitment of both Australia and Indonesia to strengthen disaster risk management and preparedness in Indonesia and regionally.
“Australia and Indonesia have a longstanding partnership on disaster risk management. We commend BNPB’s efforts to help strengthen the capacity of government and communities for disaster risk management and look forward to continued close collaboration in the future,” said Gita Kamath, Australia’s Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia.
Indonesia and Australia work together through the SIAP SIAGA Program to enhance Indonesia's capacity to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters, both rapid and slow-onset. The program also aims to strengthen Australia-Indonesia cooperation on humanitarian action in the Indo-Pacific region.
Today's signing coincides with Disaster Risk Reduction Month, an annual event organised by BNPB to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. This year, Aceh Province is hosting the event, marking the 20th anniversary of the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami that devastated the Aceh region.
The SIAP SIAGA Program collaborates with various Indonesian government agencies, including BNPB, Ministry of National Development Planning, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provincial and district/city governments, and civil society organisations.
