As part of Indo-Pacific Endeavour 2024, Australia’s flagship regional engagement activity, Royal Australian Navy vessel HMAS Stuart today hosted a Women, Peace and Security Seminar for emerging leaders in Indonesia’s security, law enforcement and peacebuilding sectors.
Ibu Arifatul Choiri Fauzi, Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, provided the keynote address and the seminar was opened by Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Penny Williams PSM.
“We know that when women are fully included in decision-making, societies are more likely to prevent and resolve conflict, and establish enduring and resilient peace outcomes,” said Ambassador Williams.
“Australia and Indonesia continue to play key roles in championing women’s equal and meaningful participation in peace processes, peacebuilding and security.”
During the seminar, participants also heard about the careers and journeys of senior Indonesian and Australian women. This included from women from the Coordinating Ministry of Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections, Indonesian National Police, National Resilience Institute, National Air and Space Power Centre of Indonesia, Australian Federal Police and Royal Australian Navy.
