A delegation of senior Australian media figures visited Jakarta this week for a program aimed at increasing understanding between Australia and Indonesia and enhancing connections between the Australian and Indonesian media sectors.
During the 9-12 February visit, the editors met with a range of senior Indonesian ministers and officials, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, Deputy Minister for Trade, Dyah Roro Esti, and Special Presidential Envoy for International Trade and Multilateral Cooperation and Vice Chair of the National Economic Council, Mari Elka Pangestu.
They also engaged in a dialogue together with senior Indonesian editors from major print, online, and broadcast media outlets to exchange views on bilateral and regional issues.
“This visit provides a valuable opportunity to promote collaboration and understanding between senior media figures from Australia and Indonesia,” said Australian Chargé d'Affaires to Indonesia, Gita Kamath. “Connections between people are at the heart of the Australia-Indonesia relationship and senior media exchanges like this help strengthen these ties.”
The visit is a flagship program of the Australian Government’s Australia-Indonesia Institute (AII) with visits alternating between Australia and Indonesia since the 1990s.
Australia’s seven-member delegation includes Amanda Hodge (Australia Indonesia Institute Board member and Southeast Asia Correspondent for The Australian), Bevan Shields (Sydney Morning Herald), Julia Feder (Australian Financial Review), Kelvin Healy (The Australian), Ian Verrender (ABC), Margaret Easterbrook (The Conversation), Sean Cowan (Business News).
