Indonesia and Australia Launch Energy Transition Research Grants

Media Release

12 March 2025

Today, Australia and Indonesia announced a joint call for collaborative research proposals to support Indonesia’s energy transition.

Gita Kamath, Australian Chargé d’Affaires to Indonesia, Prof Fauzan, Vice Minister for Higher Education, and Dr Ayom Widipaminto, Director for Research, Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) jointly launched the new initiative.

The joint call is an innovative approach to research partnerships between Australia and Indonesia to enable organisations from both countries to work together to find new policy and technological solutions on the theme “Supporting an Equitable and Just Energy Transition in Indonesia”.

The initiative is supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) and the Australia-Indonesia Knowledge Partnership Platform (KONEKSI).

Vice Minister Fauzan emphasised the initiative’s focus on addressing pressing national priorities. “Through this joint call, Kemdiktisaintek aims to foster international partnerships that generate innovative solutions for a sustainable and equitable energy future in Indonesia,” he stated.

"Australia and Indonesia continue to strengthen people-to-people and institutional links to support inclusive, innovative and sustainable development. These collaborative research grants will increase two-way learning between both countries,” said Australian Chargé d’Affaires Gita Kamath.

LPDP’s Ayom Widipaminto said that LPDP was proud to be part of this program. "This opens up opportunities for Indonesian researchers to collaborate with international experts and access resources to advance their work," he added. LPDP has played an important role providing funding for research on energy transition through KONEKSI and encourages products generated from the research to benefit the Indonesian community more broadly.
