The ASEAN-Australia Centre’s Advisory Board visited Jakarta last week to meet with ASEAN and Indonesian stakeholders. The Centre strengthens connections between Australia and Southeast Asia – focusing on economic linkages, Southeast Asia literacy, and education and cultural connections.
“The ASEAN-Australia Centre’s work deepens Australia’s engagement with ASEAN, building on more than fifty years of partnership – a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership which is well-positioned to tackle the challenges facing our region together,” said Australia’s Ambassador to ASEAN Tiffany McDonald. “The work of the ASEAN-Australia Centre is an important part of this shared journey.”
During the visit, the Advisory Board engaged with the ASEAN Committee of Permanent Representatives, ASEAN Secretariat and Indonesian representatives across the cultural, trade and business sectors.
The Board also met with teachers participating in the Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE schools partnerships program, to witness first hand the local impact of the program as the Centre’s ASEAN-Australia BRIDGE program begins.
“It’s been invaluable to meet such a broad range of ASEAN-Australia Centre supporters - there is no shortage of ideas and goodwill in the relationship Australia shares with ASEAN, built on the strong foundations of business, education and cultural ties,” said Chair of the Board Professor Mimi Tang.
