Fourteen Australian teachers travelled to Indonesia from 5 -28 April for a culture and education immersion program as part of the Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnerships Program.
The Australian teachers were joined by 13 teachers from across Indonesia on the program, which aims to foster cross-cultural exchange, promote global teaching methods and strengthen long-term educational partnerships between Australian and Indonesian schools.
“The Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE program builds close connections between Indonesian and Australian school communities,” said Australia’s Chargé d'Affaires, Gita Kamath. “This immersion program allows Australian and Indonesian teachers to learn together, exchanging knowledge, deepening understanding and strengthening the friendship between our two countries.”
Throughout the program, participants engaged in school visits and cultural excursions in several Indonesian cities and districts. They observed teaching practices, connected with their partner schools, and participated in professional development activities.
The teachers also explored Indonesian culture through traditional cooking classes, visiting cultural landmarks and planting seedlings as part of a mangrove ecosystem restoration project.
Since 2008, the Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE School Partnerships Program has established 254 school partnerships and has provided professional learning for teachers from across Australia and Indonesia to increase their global competence and intercultural understanding.
