Australian Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, visited Palembang, South Sumatra on 28-29 May 2025.
Deputy Ambassador Kamath, together with representatives of the South Sumatra Province government officials, attended the ceremony highlighting the achievements of the Inclusive Community Empowerment for Sanitation (PERINTIS) initiative.
The initiative has helped increase community understanding of the benefits of improved sanitation through workshops, training support and marketing campaigns using local influencers. It is part of the broader Palembang City Sanitation Project (PCSP) - a joint effort between the Governments of Indonesia and Australia.
“Australia is proud to be working with Indonesia – at the national, provincial and city levels – to support the Palembang City Sanitation Project," said Deputy Ambassador Kamath. “This wastewater treatment system is an inspiring example for other cities in Indonesia.”
Deputy Ambassador Kamath also visited Kusuma Bangsa High School, a partner school of Monivae College in Australia through the Australia-Indonesia BRIDGE program. BRIDGE builds connections between Indonesian and Australian teachers, students and school communities.
