The Australian Embassy, in collaboration with Macquarie University, hosted a seminar on formulating and implementing research strategies featuring representatives from Indonesian public and private universities, industry, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in Jakarta today.

Professor Sakkie Pretorius, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at Macquarie University, led the seminar, drawing on his internationally recognised expertise in molecular microbiology and biotechnology, and in translating research outcomes to innovative industry applications.

“As the world faces increasingly complex issues, it is essential to develop robust research strategies that can guide us toward viable solutions. We are keen to work with our Indonesian partners towards achieving this goal,” said Professor Pretorius.

“The Australian Embassy is delighted to host this seminar with Macquarie University to address shared challenges in formulating effective research strategies amidst global uncertainty,” said Han Xiao Zhang, Counsellor of Education and Research from the Australian Embassy. “This event is a great example of the ongoing partnership between Indonesia and Australia in advancing research and innovation.”

Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on enhancing research practices to better address uncertainty and identify technological innovations with transformative potential.

Australia and Indonesia are important research partners, with researchers co-authoring over 8,500 publications in the last ten years. Key areas of collaborative research include health and medical, digital transformation and energy transition.
