The Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) joined the Indonesian Quarantine Authority to co-host a workshop on biosecurity cooperation from 1-2 July.
The workshop provided a forum for officials to identify mutually beneficial biosecurity cooperation activities between Australia and Indonesia and scope a multi-year workplan between DAFF and the Indonesian Quarantine Authority.
“Strong biosecurity cooperation helps safeguard not just individual countries, but the health, stability, and resilience of our entire region,” said Deputy Secretary of Biosecurity, Compliance and Operations Justine Saunders, who led the Australian delegation. “Our engagement in Jakarta provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen relationships, deepen trust, and progress meaningful collaboration between Australian and Indonesian agencies.”
Officials explored projects for cooperation across plant, animal, aquatic and compliance areas that benefit our shared interests and strengthen the working relationship between our biosecurity officials.
Biosecurity, agriculture, fisheries and forestry are a key part of the relationship between Australia and Indonesia. With Indonesia’s strong focus on agricultural development and food security, Australian and Indonesian biosecurity collaboration plays an important role in supporting regional biosecurity as well as resilient and sustainable trade.
