Australian Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia Gita Kamath visited Jayapura, Papua Province and Merauke, South Papua Province from 8-11 July 2025.

Together with the Regent of Jayapura, Yunus Wonda, and senior officials from Bappenas, Badan Gizi Nasional (BGN) and UNICEF, Deputy Ambassador Kamath launched the new Regional Centre of Excellence to support Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals program at University Cendrawasih in Jayapura.

“Australia is pleased to support the Indonesian Government’s Free Nutritious Meals program through our partnership with UNICEF,” said Deputy Ambassador Kamath. “Good nutrition underpins progress in health, education, and reducing poverty. The Regional Centre of Excellence in Jayapura will support a sustainable, evidence-based program with tangible benefits.”

In Merauke, Deputy Ambassador Kamath met with the Regent of Merauke, Yoseph Bladib Gebze. The delegation also met with the civil society organisation Aisyiyah in Merauke, to discuss its work facilitating women’s access to education, healthcare and social services, under the Australia-Indonesia Partnership Towards an Inclusive Society (INKLUSI) program.
