The Australian Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) and the Indonesian Energy Transition Implementation Joint Office (IET Joint Office) have jointly convened a workshop to share insights and lessons from the Australian electricity sector on structures, revenue, regulation and incentives.

DCCEEW Counsellor for Energy and Climate Chris Bloomfield said, “Australia has been successfully attracting private capital investment to electricity infrastructure for almost 30 years. This workshop presents an opportunity to share lessons on the market structures, regulation and governance needed to crowd in private investment, particularly for electricity networks.”

Indonesian government officials and state-owned enterprise representatives came together with Australian energy agencies to explore innovative approaches to transforming the Indonesian transmission system, including identifying potential business models, additional funding avenues and de-risking projects, along with how this could be applied in an Indonesian context.

“Insights gained from Australia’s experience in transmission finance will help Indonesia develop sustainable investments and optimise funding strategies, ensuring cost-effective development of our national energy network,” said Edo Mahendra, Executive Chairperson, Indonesian Energy Transition Joint Office.

The workshop received strong support from the Government of Indonesia, represented by Wanhar, Director of Electricity Program Development at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and Farah Heliantina, Assistant Deputy for the Acceleration of Energy Transition at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. DCCEEW was joined by presenters from the Australian Energy Regulator, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation and the Deal Team from the Australian Embassy Jakarta.
