Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rod Brazier, visited Yogyakarta, Magelang and Semarang in Central Java from 11-13 August 2025.
Ambassador Brazier met with the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, His Excellency Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X to discuss the close people-to-people links between Australia and Yogyakarta that continue to thrive through education and cultural exchange.
While in Yogyakarta, Ambassador Brazier also met with Dr Hasto Wardoyo, Mayor of Yogyakarta, the Yogyakarta Regional Disaster Agency and visited Sasana Inklusi dan Gerakan Advokasi Difabel (SIGAB) Indonesia.
“I was delighted to officially visit Yogyakarta and Central Java as Australian Ambassador to Indonesia. It was wonderful to explore opportunities to strengthen and build closer ties between Australia and these regions,” said Ambassador Brazier.
During this trip, Ambassador Brazier met with the Major General TNI Arnold A. P. Ritiauw, who was then the Governor of Akmil, at the National Military Academy of Indonesia (Akmil) in Magelang to emphasise the value of practical cooperation and interoperability between our Defence forces.
Ambassador Brazier also met with the Governor of Central Java, Ahmad Luthfi, in Semarang, and visited the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) to highlight the cooperation between the Australian Federal Police and Indonesian National Police to support regional law enforcement.
Ambassador Brazier also hosted alumni events in both Yogyakarta and Semarang. The Australian alumni network in Indonesia, spanning more than 200,000 people, continues to be a highly valued and celebrated part of our cooperation.
