Australian Foreign Minister, Senator the Hon Penny Wong, visited Jakarta on 18-19 August to further deepen Australia’s partnership with Indonesia.
The Australia-Indonesia relationship has never been stronger, built on mutual strategic trust and understanding.
In Jakarta, Minister Wong met with Indonesian Foreign Minister, H.E. Sugiono, to discuss ongoing bilateral cooperation, including through our recently renewed Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Plan of Action.
“Australia and Indonesia are the closest of partners and friends. It is wonderful to be back in Jakarta to discuss our close ties and how we can further deepen cooperation to shape our region for the better,” said Minister Wong.
Minister Wong also met with Australian alumnus and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, H.E. Airlangga Hartarto, to discuss the importance of boosting two-way trade and investment, enhancing economic connectivity, and driving Australia and Indonesia’s shared prosperity.
At the ASEAN Secretariat, Foreign Minister Wong met with ASEAN Secretary-General H.E. Dr Kao Kim Hourn, reaffirming Australia’s commitment to ASEAN centrality.
On World Humanitarian Day (19 August), Minister Wong visited Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to its disaster risk management partnership with Indonesia. Minister Wong then visited the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre). Since 2021, Australia has provided AUD6.1 million in humanitarian assistance through the AHA Centre.
