Fifteen Indonesian climate startups have been selected to take part in the KINETIK NEX Entrepreneurs Program, a business incubation program which supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) working on clean energy and climate solutions across Indonesia.
The program was officially launched on August 27 in Makassar by Australian Consul-General in Makassar, Todd Dias, Walikota Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin and Director of Multilateral Cooperation and Sustainable Finance, Ministry of Finance, Bapak Boby Wahyu Hernawan.
The KINETIK NEX Entrepreneurs Program focuses on women-led startups across Indonesia. It will provide startups with eight weeks of tailored mentoring, technical support and access to investors. Five of the participating SMEs will then be awarded a share of IDR 1.6 billion in funding to pilot their innovative solutions.
Jonathan Gilbert, Minister-Counsellor Economic for the Australian Embassy in Jakarta said Australia was pleased to be supporting inclusive climate and clean energy businesses across Indonesia, including in Makassar, Kupang, Sumbawa and Sumba.
“By supporting local climate innovators, the KINETIK NEX Entrepreneurs Program highlights Australia and Indonesia’s shared commitment to an inclusive green economy,” said Minister-Counsellor Gilbert.
Boby Wahyu Hernawan, Director of Multilateral Cooperation and Sustainable Finance of the Ministry of Finance said, "Today's launch of KINETIK NEX is an important first step - a momentum to build a more inclusive climate investment ecosystem, with a multiplier effect for Indonesian MSMEs and start-ups. From here, we hope that new business models will emerge that put climate solutions at the core of their business strategy, while inspiring other innovations, strengthening the sustainable finance ecosystem and encouraging the development of a national carbon market."
Climate innovation workshops will also be held in Makassar, Kupang and Ambon to bring together the broader ecosystem of climate innovators in these locations
The KINETIK NEX Entrepreneurs Program is supported by KINETIK, the Australia–Indonesia Partnership for Climate, Renewable Energy and Infrastructure and implemented by New Energy Nexus Indonesia.
