Members of the Indonesia–Australia Teacher Education Cooperation (IATEC) gathered from 13 to 15 October 2025 in Jakarta for a workshop focused on Enhancing Teaching Competency through Technology.
Participants explored innovative strategies to effectively integrate technology into teaching and learning foundational skills. Discussions focused on enhancing the quality of initial teacher education and the teacher professional education program in Indonesia. Through open dialogue, they identified shared challenges and discussed practical solutions, including opportunities for collaboration.
“We are pleased to see universities from both countries come together to share experiences and learn from one another about improving teaching and learning through effective use of technology. This is a great example of how we can collaborate to address shared challenges in teaching and learning,” said Kassia Hare, Counsellor of Education and Research at the Australian Embassy Jakarta.
Professor Nunuk Suryani, Director General of Teacher and Education Personnel and Teacher Professional Education Program at the Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education said, “This workshop is very timely to provide an opportunity for educators from both countries to discuss integration of technology, including AI to better equip future teachers in the classroom. This initiative aligns closely with the ongoing teacher education transformation agenda at our Ministry, which aims to ensure that every teacher possesses not only pedagogical competency, but also digital skills and strong character.”
The workshop was supported by the Southeast Asia Government-to-Government (SEAG2G) program designed to strengthen institutional partnerships between Australian and Southeast Asian government agencies.
