Australian Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP and Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Professor Brian Yuliarto, have signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Higher Education and Research.
The renewed MoU, signed in November 2025, strengthens education ties between Australia and Indonesia and reaffirms both countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation in higher education and research.
“Education is a key pillar of the Australia-Indonesia partnership. This renewed MoU underscores the priority both governments place on advancing collaboration in higher education and research,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rod Brazier.
In 2024, a record 24,000 Indonesian students studied in Australia, reinforcing Australia’s position as the leading destination for Indonesian students pursuing international education.
Three Australian universities (Monash University, Western Sydney University, and Deakin University, in partnership with the UK’s Lancaster University) have also established campuses in Indonesia, expanding access to Australia’s world-class education and research opportunities in Indonesia.
There are hundreds of academic and research partnerships between Australian and Indonesian institutions, driving innovation and building capacity and capability in both countries. The renewed MoU will further strengthen these links and create new opportunities for collaboration.
