Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rod Brazier, visited Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, from 23 to 25 April 2026 to commemorate ANZAC Day and strengthen Australia-Indonesia relations. He was accompanied by the Secretary of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Alison Frame.
In Balikpapan, Ambassador Brazier met with Australian companies Thiess and Orica. “Through strong partnerships with local industry, Australian companies contribute to East Kalimantan’s vibrant mining sector,” Ambassador Brazier said. “These relationships deliver mutual economic benefits.”
During the visit, Ambassador Brazier met with Major General Krido Pramono, laid a wreath at the TNI Military Museum, and attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at Pasir Ridge, commemorating Australians, Indonesians and allied soldiers who served together during World War Two, including in Operation Oboe Two.
“ANZAC Day in Balikpapan is a poignant reminder that Australians and Indonesians have stood together in adversity. Those bonds underpin the close and respectful relationship we share today,” Ambassador Brazier said.
The Ambassador also hosted a reception for Australian alumni in Balikpapan and visited a local craft workshop supported by the local government and the Inclusion Center and Advocacy Movement for the Disabled (SIGAB), highlighting Australia’s commitment to inclusive, locally led development. SIGAB is a key partner of the INKLUSI development program and advocates for the rights of persons with disabilities.
