Media Release

19 May 2026

Australian Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Gita Kamath, visited Gorontalo from 17-19 May 2026, highlighting Australia’s strong and growing partnership with the region.

During her visit, Deputy Ambassador Kamath met the Governor of Gorontalo, Gusnar Ismail, and Vice Governor, Idah Syahidah Rusli Habibie, to discuss shared priorities in improving services, strengthening data systems and supporting community development.

While in Gorontalo, Deputy Ambassador Kamath joined government officials in launching Satu Data Gorontalo, supported by Australia through the Synergy and Collaboration to Accelerate Basic Services (SKALA) program. The initiative aims to improve how data is collected, shared and used across government to support better policy and service delivery.

“Satu Data Gorontalo shows what is possible when all parts of the system collaborate – from local communities to national institutions,” Deputy Ambassador Kamath said. “It highlights how important it is to link government, civil society and academia within a shared and reliable data framework.”

Deputy Ambassador Kamath also met with partners from the Knowledge Partnership Platform Australia-Indonesia (KONEKSI) and the Australia-Indonesia Centre Partnership for Australia-Indonesia Research (AIC-PAIR). These partnerships are helping to advance research, science, and innovation, while supporting local governments to improve the quality of life of communities in Gorontalo.

As part of the education partnership, Deputy Ambassador Kamath delivered a guest lecture at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo on Australia’s relationship with Indonesia and hosted a dinner for some of the many Australian alumni in Gorontalo.
