Australia and Indonesia Advance Transnational Education Partnership at Indonesia-Australia TNE CONNECT 2026 Symposium

The Australian Government held the landmark TNE CONNECT Symposium on 25-26 May to support greater transnational education (TNE) collaboration between Australian and Indonesian higher education institutions.

Australian Chargé d’Affaires, Gita Kamath opened the TNE CONNECT Symposium on Monday morning.

“Australia is committed to deepening our education ties with Indonesia. TNE CONNECT builds on our existing strong relationship with three Australian universities already operating branch campuses in Indonesia and over 25,000 Indonesians studying in Australia last year,” said Chargé d’Affaires Gita Kamath.

Australia’s Business Champion for Indonesia, Professor Jennifer Westacott AC, spoke at the opening plenary together with Professor Hermawan Kresno Dipojono, Ph.D, Expert Staff to the Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and Professor Greg Barton, Rector of Deakin University Lancaster University Indonesia. 

“Transnational education cooperation is critical to improving access to high quality education for both Australian and Indonesian students, and essential to supporting human capital investment and productivity in both our countries,” said Professor Westacott.

Over 30 Australian and Indonesian higher education institutions attended TNE CONNECT, and heard from Australian and Indonesian Government officials, as well as other universities, on how to build stronger TNE partnerships. Over two days the summit explored how TNE can build greater academic and research collaborations, as well as support graduate employment outcomes and industry needs.
