Australian Business Champion for Indonesia visit Jakarta

Media Release

28 May 2026

Australia's Business Champion for Indonesia, Professor Jennifer Westacott AC, has concluded her eighth visit to Jakarta, reinforcing Australia's deep and growing commitment to its education, workforce mobility, and investment partnerships with Indonesia.

Professor Westacott attended TNE CONNECT 2026 bringing together Australian universities and Indonesian higher education partners to advance collaboration that enables Indonesian students to access world-class Australian degrees in-country.

In Jakarta, she participated in the bilateral IA-CEPA Investment Committee alongside senior officials from both governments to review progress and identify areas to further advance the agreement. She also met with Vice Minister for Finance Juda Agung to discuss Indonesia’s economic outlook and ongoing financial cooperation.

"Indonesia's economic story is one of the most compelling in our region. The success of the Kangaroo Bond debut was a powerful signal, and we are keen to build on that momentum through further engagement with Australia's deep institutional investor base," said Professor Westacott.

Professor Westacott joined a farewell event for a group of Indonesian healthcare professionals who will begin work as aged care workers in Australia next month. Supported through the IA-CEPA Economic Cooperation Program, KATALIS, the program provides career pathways for Indonesian workers while helping to address workforce needs in Australia.

The visit also included discussions with Australian businesses operating in Indonesia, providing insight into opportunities and challenges on the ground.

Professor Westacott visit reflects Australia’s ongoing commitment to its economic partnership with Indonesia, guided by the ‘Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040’.
