Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rod Brazier, visited Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, from 30 July to 1 August 2026.
During the visit, Ambassador Brazier discussed shared priorities in education, health, economic development, inclusion and disaster resilience with the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara, Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena. Together, they also visited the Kupang City Samsat Office to observe the implementation of the motor vehicle tax relief policy, delivered with Australia’s SKALA Program, and the positive impact it is having for people with disabilities.
"I'm delighted to visit Kupang to see Australia's longstanding partnership with East Nusa Tenggara," said Ambassador Brazier. "Australia is working closely with government, communities, schools and businesses across the province to create opportunities, strengthen services and support inclusive economic growth."
Ambassador Brazier also met with the Vice Mayor of Kupang, Serena Cosgrova Franscis, and health leaders to discuss efforts to strengthen immunisation and integrated child wellbeing services in NTT, through Australia's partnership with UNICEF under the KITA SEHAT program. He visited the Disaster Management Operations Control Centre (Pusdalops), which Australia’s SIAP SIAGA program is working with to increase NTT’s disaster resilience.
At Oenaek Village, Ambassador Brazier had the opportunity to meet with women entrepreneurs and community members involved in the seaweed industry through Birufinery, with the support of Australia’s Investing in Women initiative.
While in Kupang, Ambassador Brazier met students and teachers participating in the BRIDGE and INOVASI education programs at SDK Citra Bangsa Mandiri and SDN Palsatu. He also hosted a reception for the large and vibrant Australian alumni community in Kupang.
As a cricket fan, Ambassador Brazier enjoyed participating in a training session with the NTT Cricket Team and Australian cricket coach Nicolene Snyman who has worked with the team on cricket development, coaching capacity, and youth engagement through the Australian Volunteers Program.
