Ambassadors and representatives from MIKTA countries (Mexico, Indonesia, Republic of Korea, Türkiye, Australia) visited Indonesia's Peacekeeping Mission Centre in Sentul today.
Following the deaths of Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in March 2026, MIKTA Foreign Ministers issued a joint statement to condemn the killings in the strongest terms. They expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and to Indonesia, and underlined that ‘attacks on UN peacekeepers and aid workers are unacceptable and violate international law’.
Hosted by the Indonesian National Defence Force, today MIKTA representatives honoured peacekeepers who have been killed while deployed in peacekeeping roles. MIKTA representatives also observed Indonesian pre-deployment peacekeeping training.
“Peacekeepers and humanitarian workers play a vital role in protecting civilians and promoting stability. Today, we acknowledge the courage, and sacrifice peacekeepers make in increasingly complex security environments,” said Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rod Brazier.
“The safety and security of peacekeepers is non-negotiable. Attacks against them are attacks against the very principles of international humanitarian law that the international community has pledged to uphold,” said Ambassador Denny Abdi, Secretary General and Acting Director General for Multilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.
He further added that practical cooperation among MIKTA members to translate political commitment into operational enforcement serves as a foundation to restore trust in multilateral institutions and advance global governance reform.
