Around 700 Australian alumni gathered at the “Gig on the Green” festival on 19 September at Rumah Sarwono, Pejaten Timur, for a vibrant celebration of music, food and friendship, highlighting the strong and enduring connections between Australia and Indonesia.
Hosted by the Australian Embassy Jakarta, this annual festival celebrates Indonesian graduates returning from Australian education institutions and strengthens connections across the Australian alumni community.
“Gig on the Green is a wonderful opportunity to welcome home our recently returned graduates, who now join our outstanding alumni community in Indonesia,” said the Acting Australian Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia, Nicola Campion. “Our alumni share strong connections with Australia and make an important contribution to the enduring partnership between Australia and Indonesia.”
This year’s festival featured performances from Australian band, Tjaka, whose contemporary sound blends electronic, hip-hop, dance and funk influences with First Nations culture, as well as Australian alumna, Nathalie Ezmeralda, and Indonesian band, The Overtunes.
The festival also featured a variety of Australian alumni-operated food and beverage stalls, including Kopi Kenangan, Fore, Gould, Gelato Milano, Kasuang, La Trobe, Luberger, Pempek Homeeah, Soejasch, and Wicked Pie.
The event was supported by Australian and Indonesian businesses and organisations, including Qantas Airways, Primaya Tangerang Hospital, Panorama, and Tugu Kunstkring Paleis.
