Australia and Indonesia Boost Energy Transition Cooperation

Media Release

29 October 2026

The Australian Embassy and PT PLN (Persero) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen Australia’s support for Indonesia’s energy transition and electricity sector development.

The MoU will deepen technical cooperation, facilitate financing and investment, and help develop workforce capability.

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia, Rod Brazier, said “Australia and Indonesia share a commitment to a clean energy future and sustainable development. Our partnership with PLN will help build a reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity system that can support Indonesia’s economic growth and clean energy transition.”

The MOU will support PLN’s efforts to modernise electricity infrastructure, strengthen grid reliability, accelerate renewable energy integration and build the skills and capabilities needed to deliver Indonesia’s long-term energy transition objectives.

The partnership brings together expertise from across the Australian Government, including Export Finance Australia and the Department of Climate Change, Energy and Water. KINETIK, the Australia-Indonesia Climate and Sustainable Infrastructure Partnership, will coordinate this support under the new MOU.

This partnership is part of a broader portfolio of investments to modernise Indonesia’s electricity grid, develop transmission and energy storage opportunities and attract investment into Indonesia's renewable energy sector.
