Australia and Indonesia have renewed their flagship youth exchange program, strengthening opportunities for young people to build lasting connections, develop leadership skills and deepen their understanding of each other.
Australia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Rod Brazier, and Secretary of the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Suyadi Pawiro, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to renew the Australia–Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP) for a further three years.
“For more than 40 years, AIYEP has brought young Australians and Indonesians together, strengthening connections and understanding between our two countries. This agreement reflects Australia and Indonesia’s continued commitment to giving young people opportunities to experience each other’s countries, build lasting friendships and better understand one another,” said Ambassador Brazier.
The MoU signing took place during the 2026 Indonesia Youth Summit, in recognition of the important role young people play in shaping the future of the Australia-Indonesia relationship.
Established in 1982, AIYEP is the longest-running bilateral youth exchange program between Australia and Indonesia.
As a flagship initiative of the Australia-Indonesia Institute (AII), delivered in partnership with the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports, AIYEP has helped thousands of young people build lasting friendships, deepen cross-cultural understanding and develop leadership skills.
